• TR009 – THE GARRISON “Subversion” cassette
The only (Malaysian) band that matters. In all seriousness, the GARRISON has taken the CLASH songbook and turned it tp their own ends. Slashing huitars, rabble-rousing lyrics, and the odd reggae song thrown in – check. The singer even sounds a lot like Strummer. No, it’s not that original, but they do it better than the most. I bet they are great live. They probably draw a big crowd as well. They remind me a bit of Bay Area band LA PLEBE in that way. The graphic in the booklet are funny and clever as well. I can’t really overstate how well they capture the CLASH sound. The four or five reggae tracks are a bit cod, and the album ends with a flaccid accoustic protest ballad, but the punk songs are energetic, sharp and well crafted. This is well worth watching. If they were American they’d probably be on Alternative Tentacles and touring with LEFTOVER CRACK or whoever, and blowing them off the stage. Great stuff. (AM) (Knot) Stream

• TR002 -KILLEUR CALCULATEUR “Book Of Flags” cassette [Tandang / Framecode records]
Book Of Flags is the debut LP by the local post-hardcore quartet KILLEUR CALCULATEUR, bringing their music into another level of matureness since their previous CD EP released. This album is a fun pack containing 9 new songs that still prolongs with the bands groovy flair of intense harmonious rhythms in a more progressive mode. The diverse direction from each instrument unit comes in euphonic within parts of their songs with the mood building and changing thru out. The stirring bass lines jumps in the groove of the versatile drumming that goes off-beat once in while, and both guitars escalates to an assault just right in the middle of the dried up noise tango. This is all topped off with the melodious anger thrown out by the bands identical synchronize shouts in vocals. The production of sounds comes out in perfecto and the more detail writing of the lyrics complement the dark and witty political concept of the album.
